  • Lanterns & Lights (Solar)

    • Do your solar lights come with batteries?

Yes, all solar lights have rechargeable batteries. They are designed to charge the batteries during the day so that the batteries can power the light at night. Our solar lights come with batteries already installed and the specs vary by product. Some products may have a pull tab that needs to be removed so the battery can make a connection, but if not noted then it does not have a pull tab.
When you need to replace the batteries make sure to use the same spec as the original (examples are AA / AAA 1.2v Ni-MH, or 14500 / 18650 3.2v Li-Ion). Do not install regular alkaline batteries in a solar lantern and put it out in the sun because alkaline batteries can't be recharged. If you install alkaline batteries they leak and damage the product which would not be covered under warranty.
    • Is it ok for solar lights to be out in the rain, snow, ice?

Yes, our solar lights are designed to be used outside all year in various weather conditions so it's ok in the rain. However, if it’s in an area on the ground where the water will pool up then you may need to move it as a precaution so it’s not submerged in water. It can also be left outside in the winter with snow and ice. However, if you know it’s about to be buried under snow for a while you may want to move it as a precaution then put it back outside when the snow clears. If not, you’ll need to clear the snow off the solar panel so that it’s able to recharge. Also, you may want to adjust the direction of the solar panel seasonally to get the most amount of sun possible since the sun can be at a different angle in the winter.
  • Lanterns (Battery Powered)

    • Is it ok for battery powered lanterns to be out in the rain, snow, ice?

Yes, our lanterns are designed to be used indoors or outdoors all year. They can be left outside in rain. However, if it’s in an area on the ground where the water will pool up then you may need to move it as a precaution so it’s not submerged in water. They can also be left outside in the winter with snow and ice. However, if you know it’s about to be buried under snow for a while you may want to move it as a precaution then put it back outside when the snow clears.
  • Solar Fountains

    • Are replacement parts available?

Yes, you can order replacement parts such as solar panels, pumps, tubes, etc. through our parts department. You can place an order online in the "Parts" section of our website. If you can't find the part you want please contact us to see if we stock it. Not all the parts in our warehouse are listed online. Some part number may have been discontinued and replaced by different numbers. You can contact us by email (CS@SmartLivingHG.com) or by phone (813-343-5775 M-F 9-5 EST).
    • Can I add a battery to my solar fountain so it can charge up and work when not sunny?

Yes, you can order a Solar-On-Demand panel and battery pack or a whole kit with a pump from our parts dept. The solar panel will have an on/off switch and a battery pack that allows you to turn it on and run it during the day, or turn it off and charge it up during the day. After it's charged you can turn it on in the evening and the battery will run the pump.
    • Can I leave it outside in winter?

If you live in an area that does not get freezing temperatures in winter then yes you can leave it outside, but if temperatures do reach freezing in your area then it needs to be stored indoors beforehand to avoid damage. Covering it with a tarp is not considered proper winter storage. Even though it’s an outdoor item it’s also a seasonal item.
    • Does it charge up and store power?

It depends on which one you're interested in. We make 2 different types of solar fountains:

If an item is listed as a "Solar Fountain" then it comes with a standard solar panel which only works when the panel is in direct sun. It does not have a battery pack so it will not charge up.

If an item is listed as a “Solar-On-Demand Fountain" then it does come with a battery pack so it can charge up and store power. It will have an on/off switch so you can either turn it on to enjoy it during the day, or you can turn it off to charge it up during the day. Once the battery is charged you will be able to turn it on in the evening and run it just from the battery.

    • If the water level gets too low will the pump automatically shut off?

No, our pumps currently do not have a built-in water level sensor, but we are looking into adding that feature to future models. Therefore, make sure you top the water up regularly so it doesn’t run dry.
    • What can I use to clean my fountain?

We simply recommend using a mild soap or vinegar, water, and a sponge to clean the inside of the bowl and the solar parts. If necessary, you can use a glass cleaner, vinegar, or CLR on the solar panel to remove difficult hard water build up and stains from the glass. Do not use bleach which can damage the paint.
    • What can I use to keep the water clean?

Our Fountain Fresh powder uses a proprietary blend of all-natural enzymes to prevent algae from growing in water. It helps keep the water clearer longer which means less cleaning and more enjoying for you and the birds. Plus it's non-toxic so it’s safe for birds and your pets! • Traditional Birdbaths

    • Can I turn my traditional birdbath into a solar fountain?

Yes! We make a product called an Aquanura Solar Insert for this exact purpose. It comes in 2 different sizes. There's a 9 inch version (model# 21300R01) and a smaller low profile 6 inch version (model# 21500R01). The model you choose may depend on the size, depth and shape of your birdbath bowl.
  • Warranty

    • Does it come with a warranty?

Yes, all our products are covered by a 1-year manufacturer’s warranty. It is based on the date of purchase, not the amount of time the item was used. If you purchased it from a retailer and not directly from us then we may request a copy of your purchase details to determine your warranty period. We may also request photos of the issue. The warranty covers defects in items that are new, or used properly, cleaned regularly, and stored indoors during winter if you have freezing temps in your area. Winter storage applies to birdbaths and fountains, not to furniture. Damage caused by improper use, not cleaning the pump or solar panel, accidents, animals, or leaving a fountain outside in freezing temperatures is not covered and voids the warranty.
